ABOUT AWLN GHANA CHAPTER

 

The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana chapter was officially launched on Wednesday, 9th November 2022 in Accra, Ghana. The theme for event was, “Achieving Gender Equality and Inclusion for The Africa We Want”.  The launch was attended by over 250 participants including High Commissioners and Ambassadors, Members of Parliament, Chief Executives, editors, leading gender advocates, the media and other prominent leading women figures. The launch was also graced with the presence of queen mothers and other traditional authorities who were clad in their colourful kente regalia, beaming with smiles, signifying hope for the future. The young women were not left out. They were there in their numbers displaying their youthful exuberance.

 

OBJECTIVES
  • Mobilize Ghanaian women and women leaders to play significant roles in the transformation of Ghana and Africa at large.
  • Influence dialogue and thought leadership on issues affecting women across Ghana and Africa. 
  • Support Ghanaian women political leaders and leadership at national and local levels to enable women pursue their leadership goals.
  • Strengthen inter-generational women’s leadership for women in Ghana by creating spaces for Ghanaian women of all ages to share leadership experiences and lessons learned.
  • Enhance the role of Ghanaian women in strategic policy spaces and processes, especially at the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and UN.
PRIORITY AREAS
  • To promote Young Women’s Leadership to increase the number of young women in political and leadership positions.
  • Use Social Mobilization to establish strong relationships between existing women’s networks to create an effective partnership.
  • To empower rural women through rights-based approach
  • To ensure financial inclusion to promote women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
